Terms of service

These Terms of Service apply to the use of the Nijiwa online shop at nijiwa.com and to all orders placed with us. Please read them before you order. By placing an order, you accept these terms. Last updated: 8 October 2026.

1. Overview and operator

This website is operated by Nijiwa, 6 Rue du Manoir, 58230 Alligny-en-Morvan, France ("Nijiwa", "we", "us", "our"). You can reach us by email at hello@nijiwa.com, by phone on +44 7488 812891 (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM GMT/BST (UK time)) or by post at the address above.

Nijiwa sells Japanese kitchen knives online to consumers in the United Kingdom. We offer this website, including all information and services available on it, to you on the condition that you accept these terms and the policies referred to in them.

2. Scope

These terms apply to all orders placed through this online shop by consumers. A consumer is any individual who places an order for purposes that are wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft or profession.

3. Age restriction

Our products are sharp kitchen knives and are age-restricted. You must be at least 18 years old to place an order. By placing an order you confirm that you are 18 or over. We do not sell knives to children or anyone under 18. We may refuse or cancel an order, and refund any payment in full, if we have reason to believe that the buyer is under 18.

4. Online store terms

You may not use our products for any illegal or unauthorised purpose, and you may not, in the use of the service, violate any laws in your jurisdiction. Knives must be bought, carried, stored and used in line with the law of the United Kingdom. You must not transmit any viruses or any code of a destructive nature. A breach of these terms may result in the immediate termination of our services to you.

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for a legitimate reason. Credit card information is always encrypted during transfer over networks.

5. Products and product information

Each product page describes the knife, its blade length, steel, handle and main features. We describe our products as accurately as possible. Colours and the pattern of the Damascus steel can look slightly different on screen than in reality, and every blade pattern is individual. If anything on a product page is unclear to you, contact us before ordering and we will be happy to help.

6. Ordering and contract formation

  • Add the knife you want to your cart.
  • In the checkout, enter your contact and delivery details and choose your payment method.
  • Before placing the order, you can review all details and correct any input errors.
  • By clicking the order button, you place a binding order.

Immediately after placing your order, you receive an order confirmation by email. The contract of sale is formed when we confirm your order by this email. If we cannot fulfil an order, for example because an item is no longer available or because the age requirement is not met, we inform you without delay and refund any payment already taken in full. The contract language is English; you receive the key order details in your order confirmation email.

7. Prices and payment

All prices are shown in British pounds (GBP) and include all applicable taxes. Delivery within the United Kingdom is free, and no further charges are added at checkout. The total you see before placing your order is the amount you pay.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Cartes Bancaires, Apple Pay, Shop Pay, PayPal and Klarna. The payment methods available for your order are shown at checkout. Your payment method is charged when you place your order; for Klarna, the payment terms shown by Klarna apply. Details are in our Payment Policy.

8. Delivery

We deliver within the United Kingdom, free of charge and with tracking. Orders placed by 2:00 PM GMT/BST (UK time) on a business day (Monday to Friday) enter processing the same business day. Processing takes 1-3 business days (Monday to Friday) and delivery a further 6-10 delivery days (Monday to Saturday), so the total delivery time is 7-13 days. Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery. Details are in our Shipping Policy.

9. Right to cancel and returns

As a consumer, you may cancel your purchase within 30 days of delivery without giving a reason; we voluntarily extend the statutory 14-day period to 30 days. Return postage for a change of mind is paid by the customer, refunds are back on your original payment method within 7 days of your return arriving with us, and we do not offer exchanges. How to register a return is set out in our Returns & Refunds, which also contains a model cancellation form.

10. Faulty goods and your statutory rights

We are legally obliged to supply goods that conform to the contract. If a knife is faulty, damaged or not as described, the remedies set out in our Returns & Refunds apply and we cover the return costs. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

11. Safe use

Our knives are very sharp. Keep them out of reach of children, store them in a knife block, on a magnetic strip or in a blade guard, and use them only for preparing food. Follow the care instructions on the product page: wash by hand, dry straight away and use a wooden or plastic board.

12. Liability

We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and in all other cases in which liability cannot be limited by law. In cases of slight negligence, we are liable only for the breach of essential contractual obligations, limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this type of contract. We are not liable for damage caused by misuse of the products, improper care or failure to follow the safety instructions. This clause does not limit our commitments for faulty goods and lost or damaged parcels, and it does not limit your statutory consumer rights.

13. Customer account

You can order as a guest or create a customer account. If you create a customer account, please keep your login details confidential and inform us immediately if you suspect that someone else has access to your account.

14. Optional tools and third-party links

Our website may contain links to third-party websites and tools, for example for payment or parcel tracking. We have no control over their content and are not responsible for it. Your use of such services is governed by the terms of the respective provider.

15. Personal information

Your submission of personal information through the store is governed by our Privacy Policy.

16. Errors, inaccuracies and omissions

Occasionally there may be information on our site that contains typographical errors, inaccuracies or omissions relating to product descriptions, pricing or availability. We reserve the right to correct any errors, inaccuracies or omissions and to change or update information. If an order is affected by an obvious error, we contact you before dispatch; if you do not wish to keep the order on the corrected terms, we cancel it and refund any payment in full.

17. Prohibited uses

You are prohibited from using the site or its content: (a) for any unlawful purpose; (b) to solicit others to perform or participate in any unlawful acts; (c) to infringe our intellectual property rights or the rights of others; (d) to submit false or misleading information, including false age information; (e) to upload or transmit viruses or any other malicious code; (f) to spam, phish or scrape; or (g) to interfere with or circumvent the security features of the service.

18. Intellectual property

All content in this shop, including texts, images, graphics, logos and layout, is protected by copyright. It may not be copied, reproduced or used commercially without our prior written permission.

19. Governing law

These terms and all contracts concluded under them are governed by the law of France. If you order as a consumer with your habitual residence in the United Kingdom, you additionally keep the protection of the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the law of your country of residence, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. You may bring proceedings in the courts of your place of residence.

20. Dispute resolution

We are not obliged and not willing to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. If you have a concern, please contact us directly at hello@nijiwa.com; we aim to resolve every matter together with you.

21. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example when our range or legal requirements change. The version published at the time of your order applies to that order.

22. Severability

If any provision of these terms is or becomes invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions remains unaffected.
